On a beautiful Spring day in 2022, a nest was dislodged from the roof of my house and a baby starling bounced off to land literally at my feet… a sign that told me in no uncertain terms that it needed help. With the assistance of the internet, my daughter’s knowledge of chicken-rearing and the local feed store, I whipped up some food, wrapped up a hot water bottle with a towel, and put the little guy in a box. And then I hoped for the best. I had embarked on the most extraordinary journey of learning, and over the next four months I grew to understand, care for, and bond with a wild bird – until the call of the wild called him home. These images are all based upon photographs I took in the first two months we shared together. It was so much fun watching him grow.  He had the sweetest personality, and in fact, he ‘helped’ me create these images; he stole the rubber stamps while I was working on them and flew away with them!
